Morgins - Dents du Midi
🇨🇭 Valais · Switzerland — Altitude 1450 m
This live camera looks toward the Dents du Midi, the jagged limestone peaks that rise above the Chablais Alps in the Valais. It is a useful window for judging mountain conditions and cloud cover before planning a walk or a drive up the valley.
Morgins is a small mountain village in the French-speaking part of the Valais, on the Swiss side of the border with France. It sits at roughly 1450 metres above sea level, in a broad alpine valley surrounded by pine and larch forest. The village is best known as a quiet base for hiking and winter sports, and the Dents du Midi, a range of sharp rock summits, dominate the skyline to the south. The Valais as a whole is one of Switzerland's most mountainous cantons, with deep glacial valleys and high passes.
The view is aimed at the mountain range, so the most rewarding moments are usually early morning, when the first light catches the rock faces, and late afternoon, when the shadows lengthen across the peaks. Cloud building over the summits is a good sign of afternoon weather changes, and fresh snow on the higher ridges is typically visible in autumn and winter. Clear days give the sharpest picture, while low cloud can hide the summits for hours.
Summers are mild with cool nights and winters are cold and snowy, so late June to September is the most comfortable time for walking, while winter suits snow sports. Weather in mountain valleys can change quickly, so check the forecast on this page before setting out. Nearby, you can compare the scene with the cameras at La Foilleuse, Châtel, Champoussin and Troistorrents, which cover other views of the same region.
