About Troy and the region
Troy sits in Pike County in the Wiregrass part of southeast Alabama, a rolling landscape of pine forests, farmland and small towns. The city is best known as the home of Troy University, which gives the town a steady student presence throughout the academic year. Troy is about 148 metres above sea level, so the terrain is gentle rather than hilly. The surrounding countryside is a mix of woods, pastures and peanut and cotton fields typical of the region.
What you can watch on the camera
The view is of the University, so the most useful things to watch are campus activity during the working day, when students and staff are moving between buildings. Depending on the angle, you may also see trees, lawns and the traffic on nearby roads. Weather matters a lot here: summer afternoons can bring heavy thunderstorms, and clear mornings in spring and autumn tend to give the sharpest views. Compare the live weather on the page with what you see on screen.
Climate and getting around
Central Alabama has a humid subtropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild winters. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons to visit. Troy is a short drive from other cameras in the area, including the nearby views of Ozark, Abbeville and Enterprise, which are useful if you want to compare conditions across the region. Local time follows the Central time zone.
