This live camera looks out over Ahwatukee, a residential foothill community on the south side of Phoenix. It is useful if you want to see the desert sky and sun conditions in the Valley of the Sun before planning a trip or a call. The page shows the stream alongside local time and current weather.
Ahwatukee sits at the southern edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area, close to the South Mountains, a long ridge of desert peaks that rises above the city. Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and one of the largest cities in the American Southwest. The surrounding landscape is Sonoran Desert, with saguaro cactus, creosote shrubs and rocky hills, which gives the skyline a wide, open character compared with coastal cities.
The camera is a general sky view, so the picture mainly reflects light, cloud and haze rather than street activity. Clear, dry days make the mountains and horizon easy to read. Early morning and the hour before sunset usually bring the warmest colours and the clearest air, while the afternoon can look pale and hazy. Summer monsoon storms sometimes build over the desert and can be dramatic to watch.
Phoenix has a hot desert climate with very dry air. Winters are mild and are the most comfortable time to visit, while summers regularly exceed 40 ยฐC. Spring and autumn are pleasant for walking and hiking in the nearby desert parks. Because the city is large, the Valley is spread out, so a car is the easiest way to reach the mountains and other neighbourhoods.
