Palisades Tahoe - Alpine Summit
πΊπΈ California Β· United States β Altitude 2591 m
This live camera looks out from the alpine summit area of Palisades Tahoe, the ski resort in Olympic Valley above Lake Tahoe. It is useful for checking how the mountain looks right now, whether snow is present and how visibility is holding up before you plan a trip.
Palisades Tahoe sits in the Sierra Nevada on the California side of Lake Tahoe, near the 1960 Winter Olympic venues of Squaw Valley. The resort is known for its steep, varied terrain, its high-elevation bowls and its long history as one of the largest ski areas in North America. At around 2,600 metres the summit has a stark, open character with granite outcrops and wide views over the valley and the lake basin far below.
Because the view is taken from the summit area, the picture changes most with the weather. Clear winter mornings tend to give the sharpest views of the slopes, while storms can hide the peaks in cloud within minutes. Late afternoon light often brings out the shapes of the ridges, and in spring the contrast between snow and bare rock becomes especially clear. Check the live view before setting off, since conditions at the top can differ greatly from the valley.
Winter brings the heaviest snowfall and the busiest season, while late spring and early autumn are calmer and more settled. Weather at this altitude changes quickly, and temperatures can drop well below freezing even on sunny days. Nearby on the same mountain are other cameras such as the Olympic Valley and Silverado views, which help you compare conditions at different heights and sides of the resort.
