Lake Tahoe - The Idle Hour

This live camera looks out over Tahoma, a mountain community in the Lake Tahoe area of California at about 1920 metres above sea level. It is useful for checking how the high country looks right now before you travel or plan a day outdoors.
Tahoma sits on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, a large alpine lake set among the Sierra Nevada mountains on the California and Nevada border. The area is known for clear water, pine forest and granite peaks, and it draws visitors all year for hiking, lakeside walks and winter sports. Its altitude means the air is thin and the weather can change quickly, even when the valley below looks calm.
Depending on the view, you may see the mountain slopes, the tree line and the sky above the lake. Winter brings snow to the higher ground, while summer shows green forest and clearer long-distance views. Early morning and late afternoon light tends to bring out the shape of the ridges, and cloud build-up over the peaks is often worth watching in the afternoon.
Summers are mild and dry, with warm days and cool nights, while winters are cold and snowy. The best time to visit for hiking is usually from late June to September, and for snow sports from December to March. Other live cameras in the area include Lake Tahoe - The Idle Hour, Zephir Cove, South Lake Tahoe and the South Lake Tahoe Airport North camera.
