This live stream looks out over Lake Oroville, one of the largest reservoirs in California, set among the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Watch it to check how the water and sky look before planning a trip, or simply to see the lake change through the day.
Lake Oroville sits on the Feather River in Butte County, behind the Oroville Dam, which is one of the tallest dams in the United States. The reservoir stores water for irrigation and supplies drinking water across much of the state. Its shoreline is lined with oak woodland, pine and granite outcrops typical of the Sierra foothills, and the surrounding country is dry and golden for much of the year.
Because the camera is a nature view, the scene is mostly about light, water level and weather. Early morning and late afternoon usually bring the most contrast on the water and the hills, while clear summer days show the lake at its most blue. Water levels change with the seasons and with rainfall, so the shoreline you see may differ noticeably from one visit to the next.
The area has hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters, with most rain falling between November and March. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. Nearby, you can compare this view with the Nelson and Collins Lake cameras, or the higher Donner Pass Summit camera to see how conditions change with elevation.
