This live stream looks out over Indio, a desert city in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. Check it to see current conditions and how the light and heat change through the day before you plan a trip.
Indio sits on the floor of the Coachella Valley, east of Palm Springs, at a low elevation surrounded by mountains. It is best known as the date-growing center of the region and for the large music festival held each spring at the Empire Polo Club. The landscape is flat, dry and open, with palm-lined boulevards and irrigated farmland that stands out sharply against the desert.
The view is most rewarding in the early morning and late afternoon, when the low sun brings out the mountain ridges and the colors of the desert. Midday glare and heat haze are common, so the picture may look washed out at that time. Weather such as dust, wind or occasional clouds can change the scene quickly, and the live stream lets you judge conditions as they happen.
Summers are very hot, often above 40 Β°C, while winters are mild and sunny and the most pleasant season for visiting. Indio is a short drive from Palm Springs and the nearby Coachella cameras, and the El Paseo area is a short distance away. Plan outdoor activities for early or late in the day, and bring water and sun protection.
