Purgatory Resort - Sommet, Ray's Ridge (3290 m)
🇺🇸 Colorado · United States — Altitude 3290 m
This camera looks out from the summit ridge of Purgatory Resort, one of the higher ski areas in southwestern Colorado. It is useful for judging snow, cloud and wind on the upper mountain before you drive up from Durango. The live player is paired with current conditions for the resort area.
Purgatory Resort sits in the San Juan Mountains near Durango, in the south-west of Colorado. The area is known for its steep terrain, reliable winter snow and views across the surrounding peaks and forested valleys. At the summit of Ray's Ridge the camera stands above 3,000 metres, so the landscape is open, exposed and often shaped by wind. Conditions up here can differ sharply from the town below.
The view is most interesting during winter, when the upper slopes are covered and the light changes quickly across the ridge. In summer and early autumn you may see clearer skies and the colours of the high country. Afternoon storms are common in the warmer months, so the morning often gives the clearest picture. Depending on the view, you may see skiers, lift traffic or passing cloud.
Winter brings the most snow and the busiest slopes, while summer offers hiking and mountain views. Temperatures at this altitude stay cold even in the warmer months, so bring layers. Nearby you will find the Purgatory Express lift arrival, the Village Plaza and the Durango Glacier Club camera, which give a sense of how conditions change between the summit and the base area.
