This live stream looks out over Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, and is worth a look when you want to see the city as it is right now. The page also shows local time and current weather so you can judge conditions before you plan a walk or a visit.
Washington sits on the Potomac River at the edge of the Chesapeake region, a flat, low-lying landscape at roughly seven metres above sea level. The city is known for its federal monuments, museums and tree-lined avenues, and for the Mall, the long green axis that runs from the Capitol toward the Lincoln Memorial. Its character is shaped as much by government buildings and cultural institutions as by the river and parkland around it.
The view is titled Bloom, which suggests the stream is aimed at the city's flowering season, but the picture itself is not described here. Depending on the angle, you may see streets, trees and waterfront light. Watching in spring, when the cherry trees and other blossoms come out, or on a clear morning, is usually the most rewarding, since light and foliage change the scene most then.
Washington has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, muggy summers and cool winters, and spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to walk outdoors. The city is easy to explore on foot and by metro. Nearby on VizCams you can find the YoJayHudsonSTREAMS and Kennedy Center cameras, both about 2 km away, as well as the Lake Barcroft dam view to the southwest.
