This live camera looks out over Old Orchard Beach, a long sandy shoreline on the Atlantic coast of southern Maine. It is a useful way to check how the beach looks before you drive out, especially in summer when the town is busiest.
Old Orchard Beach is a seaside town about 20 kilometres south of Portland, on the Atlantic coast of Maine. It grew up around its wide, flat sand beach and a classic boardwalk lined with arcades, ice cream stands and small hotels. The coast here is open to the ocean, so the atmosphere changes quickly with the tide and wind.
Depending on the view, you may see the sand at low or high tide, surfers and swimmers near the water, and the flow of people along the shore. The beach is liveliest on warm weekend afternoons in July and August. Early mornings and calm weather are the best times to see the water with fewer people on it.
Summers in southern Maine are mild and pleasant, usually warm enough for swimming in the afternoon, while the Atlantic stays cool. Winters are cold and the town is quiet. The best time to visit is late June through early September. Nearby cameras include Higgins Beach, the Portland Head Light view over Casco Bay, and the Summer Landing camera in South Portland.
