This live feed looks out over the mountain resort of Big Sky in southwest Montana, a place known for its winter sports and wide alpine views. Check current conditions before you plan a visit or simply watch the slopes and sky change through the day.
Big Sky is a resort area in the Gallatin Valley, south of Bozeman, set at roughly 2,650 metres in the northern Rockies. The town sits in a broad valley framed by high peaks and forest, and it is best known as one of the largest ski areas in the United States. Summers bring hiking, fishing and a quieter mountain atmosphere that draws people from across the region.
The stream is a mountain view, so the most rewarding moments are usually early morning, when light moves across the peaks, and late afternoon, when the slopes take on warm colours. Snow cover, cloud banks and clear spells change quickly at this altitude, so the picture can shift a great deal within an hour. Depending on the view, you may see skiers and lift activity in winter or hikers and open meadows in summer.
Winters are cold and snowy, with heavy snowfall from December to March, while summers are mild and short, with warm days and cool nights. Spring and autumn can be changeable, so checking the local forecast on this page helps before any trip. Nearby cameras on the Big Sky resort include the Everett's 8800 view and the Lone Peak Tram, both a few kilometres away, and Virginia City and Black Butte lie within about an hour's drive.
