Big Sky - Lone Peak Tram
🇺🇸 Montana · United States — Altitude 2745 m
This live camera follows the Lone Peak Tram at Big Sky Resort in southwest Montana. It is a useful window onto the mountain's changing light, snow and cloud, whether you are planning a trip or simply curious about conditions high in the Rockies.
Big Sky is a resort area in the Gallatin Valley, south of Bozeman, set among the Madison Range and the Spanish Peaks. The surrounding country is mountainous and largely undeveloped, with forests, alpine meadows and wide views toward the Gallatin Range. Lone Peak, rising above the resort, is one of the defining landmarks of the region and gives the area its character as a year-round mountain destination.
The camera is aimed at the tram and the mountain it serves, so the view is mainly about the slope and the sky above it. Depending on the framing, you may see snow cover in winter, green slopes and wildflowers in summer, and clouds moving quickly across the peaks. Early morning and late afternoon usually bring the most dramatic light, and weather changes at this altitude can be sudden.
Winters are long and cold with heavy snowfall, which is why the area is best known for skiing. Summer is mild during the day and cool at night, with the most reliable access for hiking and sightseeing. Big Sky is reached by road from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, roughly an hour away. Nearby cameras at Everett's 8800, Moonlight Basin and Spanish Peaks show other parts of the resort.
