This live camera looks over the Whitefish Mountain Resort ski area in northwestern Montana. It is useful for checking snow and visibility on the slopes before you drive up. The page adds the local time and the current weather with a short forecast for the valley.
Whitefish sits in the Flathead Valley near the northwestern edge of Montana, close to Glacier National Park. The town grew up around the rail line and later around its ski mountain, and it has a relaxed, outdoorsy feel. The resort rises to about 1,430 metres at its base area, and the surrounding forests and peaks define much of the view. The valley is known for lakes, mountain scenery and access to wilderness.
The camera is a ski-category view, so it is aimed at the slopes and base area of the resort. Winter brings the most activity, and mornings are often the best time to judge fresh snow and clearing skies. Weather in the mountains can change quickly, so the view may be obscured by cloud or snowfall at times. Watching in the late morning or early afternoon usually gives the clearest impression of conditions on the hill.
Winters are cold and snowy, while summers are warm and comparatively dry, with long daylight hours. The ski season is the main reason most visitors come, but the area is also used for hiking and lake trips in warmer months. Nearby cameras on this site include Evergreen Osprey Pole, the Kalispell views and Blacktail ski area, which are useful for comparing conditions across the region.
