Mont Washington - Cog Railway
πΊπΈ New Hampshire Β· United States β Altitude 820 m
This live stream looks out over the Mount Washington area in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where the historic Cog Railway climbs toward the summit. It is useful for anyone checking whether the peak is clearing, how much cloud is sitting on the ridges, or what conditions are like before a trip up the mountain.
Mount Washington rises to the Presidential Range in the northeastern United States and is widely known for having some of the most volatile weather in the country. Its summit sits well above the tree line, and the surrounding slopes are protected as part of the White Mountain National Forest. The Cog Railway, opened in 1869, is one of the oldest mountain railways in the world and still runs on a rack system up the western side. The area is a popular base for hiking, scenic train rides and mountain driving.
Because this is a mountain view, the picture changes most with cloud, fog and light rather than with activity on the ground. Clear mornings often give the best visibility across the valleys, while afternoons can bring cloud build-up that quickly hides the summit. Depending on the view, you may see the railway line, the slopes and the ridgelines shifting between sun and mist. Watching for a few minutes is usually enough to tell how the day is developing.
Summer and early autumn are the most comfortable months to visit, although temperatures on the summit stay cold and wind can be strong at any time of year. Bring warm layers even in July. Nearby VizCams cameras include the Whitefield view about 24 km away, the Loon Mountain view 25 km away and North Conway 30 km away, which can help you compare conditions across the region.
