This live stream points at Silver City, a town in the mountains of southwestern New Mexico. Open it to see current conditions in town and check whether the weather is clear before you plan a trip. The page also shows local time and a short forecast.
Silver City sits at about 1,800 metres in the Mimbres Mountains, where the high desert meets pine-covered slopes. It grew up around silver and copper mining in the nineteenth century and is now known as a base for exploring the Gila region, with its cliff dwellings, forests and rivers. The town has a relaxed, artistic character and a historic downtown with older brick buildings.
The feed is a city camera, so the view usually covers streets, buildings and the surrounding hills rather than a single landmark. Activity tends to pick up in the late morning and afternoon, while evenings are quieter. Clear days often give the best visibility of the mountains, and cloud or monsoon storms in summer can change the scene quickly.
The climate is dry and sunny for much of the year, with warm days and cool nights because of the elevation. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit, while the summer monsoon season brings afternoon thunderstorms. Nearby cameras on this site cover Willcox, Dragoon and the Sunrise Peak Resort area, which are useful for comparing conditions across the region.
