This live camera looks out over the Outer Banks, the long chain of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina. Watch the current conditions before you plan a beach day, a drive along the coast or a fishing trip.
The Outer Banks are a string of narrow barrier islands separating the Atlantic Ocean from the sounds of northeastern North Carolina. The area is known for wide sandy beaches, dunes, lighthouses and a history that includes the Wright Brothers' first powered flights at Kitty Hawk. Villages are small and spread out, and much of the landscape is shaped by wind, tides and storms.
The title refers only to the Outer Banks as a whole, so the exact view depends on where the camera is pointed. Depending on the view, you may see open coastline, dunes, water and sky. Conditions change quickly here: morning light is often calm, while afternoons can bring wind, clouds and rougher surf, and late-season storms are worth watching for.
Summers are warm and humid, with the most reliable beach weather from June to August, while spring and autumn are milder and quieter. Hurricane season runs through the autumn, so check conditions before travelling. Nearby cameras include Manteo, Virginia Beach and the Manteo Marina, which show neighbouring waterfront views.
