This live stream looks out over the Kitty Hawk beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is useful for checking how the shoreline and surf look before you go, or simply for watching the Atlantic from afar. The page also shows the local time and current conditions.
Kitty Hawk is a small town on the Outer Banks, a chain of narrow barrier islands separating the Atlantic Ocean from the sounds of northeastern North Carolina. The area is best known as the place where the Wright brothers made their first powered flights nearby in 1903, and its wide sandy beaches and dunes draw visitors throughout the year. The landscape is low, open and shaped by wind and water.
The camera points at the beach, so the view changes with the tide, the sea state and the weather. Clear mornings tend to give the calmest water, while afternoons with a steady breeze are when surfers and kite enthusiasts are most likely to be active. Overcast or stormy days can look dramatic, and the light is often strongest in the early evening.
Summers are warm and humid, with the beaches busiest from June to August, while spring and autumn are milder and often less crowded. Winters are cool and can be windy. Kitty Hawk is reached by road along US Highway 158. Nearby cameras include New Bern, Nags Head and Manteo, which cover other stretches of the same coastline.
