This live camera looks out over Crystal Beach, a small community on the Bolivar Peninsula east of Galveston, Texas. It is a useful way to see how the Gulf coast looks right now before you plan a drive or a day by the water.
Crystal Beach sits on the Bolivar Peninsula, a long, low strip of sand that separates Galveston Bay from the Gulf of Mexico. The land is flat and close to sea level, and the area is known for fishing, shorebirds and relaxed beach life. Its character is shaped by the wind, the tides and the open horizon over the water.
Because the view is a beach scene, the most useful thing to watch is the water and sky: wave size, surf colour, cloud cover and how busy the sand is. Mornings often bring calmer water and softer light, while afternoons can be windier. Weather changes quickly on the coast, so the picture tells you more than a forecast alone.
The Texas coast is warm and humid for much of the year, with hot summers and mild winters. Late spring and early autumn are generally the most comfortable times to be by the water. Galveston is a short drive away, and nearby VizCams pages include Galveston Seawall, Galveston Historic Center and the Port of Galveston Terminal 10 camera.
