This live view looks toward Crystal Mountain, a ski resort on the eastern slopes of Mount Rainier in Washington State. It is a useful way to check conditions on the mountain before deciding whether to drive up. The stream is provided by its owner and embedded here with a link to the original source.
Crystal Mountain sits in the Cascade Range at roughly 1,340 metres above sea level, within reach of Mount Rainier National Park. It is one of the larger ski areas in the state and is known for its wide snowfields, alpine terrain and views across the Cascades. The surrounding forests of fir and hemlock give way to open ridges higher up, and the resort is a long-standing destination for winter sports lovers in the Pacific Northwest.
Depending on the view, you may see the slopes, lift lines and snow cover, or the peaks and cloud moving across the ridges. Winter brings the most activity, with skiers and snowboarders and fresh snowfall, while summer and early autumn show green slopes and clearer skies. Mountain weather changes quickly, so the view can shift from sunshine to fog within an hour, and checking the live stream before you travel helps.
The region has a maritime-influenced climate with wet, snowy winters and dry, mild summers. Snow is heaviest from December to March, and the road up can require chains or winter tyres. Nearby cameras include Silver Fir and Alpental in King County, plus Snoqualmie and Ellensburg, which are useful for comparing conditions across the Cascade passes before you set out.
