This live camera looks out over the Winterplace Resort area in Ghent, a small community in the mountains of southern West Virginia. It is a useful window for anyone planning a ski trip or checking how conditions look on the hill right now. The live player below shows the stream as the resort's owner provides it.
Ghent sits in the Appalachian highlands of Raleigh County, at an elevation of roughly 1,000 metres. The region is known for steep ridges, forested valleys and the outdoor recreation that comes with them. Winterplace is one of the best known winter resorts in the state, and the surrounding landscape is quiet and rural, with few large towns nearby. Much of the appeal lies in the scenery itself and in the slower pace of mountain life.
The view is most useful in winter, when snow cover and slope conditions change from day to day and you can get a sense of how busy the resort looks. In the warmer months the same camera can show green slopes, passing weather and changing light across the ridges. Early mornings and late afternoons often bring the clearest contrast on the terrain. Depending on the view, you may also notice fog settling in the valleys or clouds moving across the hills.
Winters in this part of West Virginia are cold, with regular snowfall at higher elevations, while summers are mild and humid. Autumn foliage in the surrounding forests is a popular draw in October. The resort is reached by road, and the larger Beckley area offers the nearest airport and services. Other cameras nearby include the Winterplace Ski Resort view, the Ruddy Duck camera in Ghent, and a view in Springville.
