Hintertux - Gefrorene Wand
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria
This live camera looks out over the Hintertux Glacier area in the Tux Alps of Tyrol, one of the few places in Austria where skiing is possible throughout most of the year. It is useful for judging snow and cloud conditions on the high ice before you plan a trip up the mountain.
Hintertux lies in the Zillertal Alps of western Tyrol, in a high valley at the end of the Tux valley road. The Hintertux Glacier is one of the largest year-round ski areas in the country, and the surrounding landscape is defined by bare rock, glacier ice and alpine meadows. The village itself is small, with the mountain setting dominating everything around it. The name refers to the frozen face of the glacier that rises above the valley.
The view is titled after the Frozen Wall, so it is most likely to show the glacier front and the slopes above it. Clear mornings tend to give the best visibility, before afternoon clouds often build over the peaks. Winter brings fresh snow and crisp light, while summer views show the ice in its bare, grey and blue tones. Watch the cloud base and fresh snow cover to judge conditions.
Hintertux is reached by road through the Tux valley, and the glacier lifts operate from the village. Mountain weather can change quickly, so a forecast is worth checking before any visit. Nearby cameras on this site include the Hintertuxer Glacier view, the Sommerberg camera above the village, and the Schlegeis reservoir camera in the Zillertal Alps, which together give a fuller picture of the area.
