Tignes - Grande Motte
🇫🇷 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes · France — Altitude 3653 m
This camera looks out from the Grande Motte area above Tignes, a high Alpine ski resort in Savoie. It is useful for anyone checking glacier conditions, cloud cover over the peaks, or how the mountain looks before heading up to the slopes.
Tignes sits in the Tarentaise valley at around 2,100 metres and is one of the highest linked ski areas in France. Its terrain climbs toward glaciers and bare rock, and the Grande Motte rises above the resort as one of its most recognised peaks. The landscape changes quickly with altitude, from larch forest and meadows in the valley to snow fields and rock at the top.
Since this is a mountain view, the most interesting moments are usually early morning, when the light first reaches the summits, and late afternoon, when shadows lengthen across the glacier. Cloud rolling over the ridges can change the view within minutes. Depending on the season and the weather, you may see fresh snow, clear skies or mist settling in the valley below.
The area is best known for winter skiing, usually from December to April, and for summer and autumn hiking when the high trails are open. Weather at this altitude can turn cold and windy at any time of year, so check the forecast on this page before travelling. Nearby cameras at Val Claret, the Lac de Tignes and Bellevarde in Val d'Isère give you additional views of the same mountain range.
