This live camera looks out over Alpe d'Huez, a ski resort in the Oisans massif of the French Alps at about 2,700 metres. It is useful for seeing current snow and cloud conditions before you travel or while you plan a day on the mountain.
Alpe d'Huez sits on a sunny plateau above the Romanche valley in the Isère department. It is best known as a winter ski destination with a long run of switchbacks, the Sarenne descent, and a wide area of linked slopes. In summer the high pastures and hiking trails draw walkers, and the town keeps a lively, mountain-village atmosphere throughout the year.
The view changes quickly with altitude. Clear mornings often give the sharpest picture of the peaks, while afternoon cloud can build over the ridges within an hour. In winter, fresh snowfall and grooming are the main things to check, and in summer you can judge whether the upper trails are open and how much haze there is over the valley.
Winter is the main season, usually from December to April, and the snow is generally most reliable in January and February. Summer is mild by day and cool at night, so pack layers. Weather at this height can turn fast, so check the forecast on this page before setting out. Nearby cameras include Les Deux Alpes, Saint-Sorlin d'Arves and Les Karellis.
