This live stream is positioned on the Île d'Oléron, on the Atlantic coast of western France. It is useful if you want to check the sea and sky before heading out, or simply see how the island looks at this moment. The live player, local time and forecast are all on this page.
Île d'Oléron is the largest island on the French Atlantic coast, joined to the mainland by a bridge. It is known for its oyster farms, salt marshes, pine forests and long sandy beaches, and for the whitewashed harbour villages that line its eastern shore. The landscape is flat and open, so light and weather change quickly across the water.
Depending on the view, you may see tides moving over the foreshore, boats in the channel and the changing colour of the sea through the day. The stream is most rewarding around sunrise and late afternoon, when the low sun brings out texture on the water. Clear mornings and strong winds are the conditions most worth watching for.
The island has a mild oceanic climate, with mild winters and warm, breezy summers. Late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant times to visit, with fewer crowds than July and August. The nearby camera at La Cotinière on the west coast and the Port Le Douhet view on the east are good places to compare conditions across the island.
