This camera looks out from the Kitzlahner mountain station on the Sudelfeld, a ski and hiking area above Bayrischzell in the Bavarian Alps. It is useful for judging snow, cloud and visibility on the slopes before you travel. The live player and weather panel below update together.
Bayrischzell is a small alpine village at the foot of the Wendelstein range, close to the Austrian border in the Mangfall Mountains. The Sudelfeld rises above it as a broad ski and hiking area with pistes, lifts and marked trails through meadows and spruce forest. The landscape is typical of the Bavarian Alps: open pastures, limestone peaks and a strong sense of quiet compared with the larger resorts. Local traditions and mountain huts are part of the appeal for visitors who come for walks rather than fast skiing.
The camera is mounted at a mountain station, so the view changes most with weather. In clear winter conditions you may see snow on the slopes and skiers moving along the pistes, while in summer you may see walkers and cloud drifting over the ridges. Early morning often gives the sharpest visibility before cloud builds in the afternoon. Mist and fog can hide the view for hours, so it is worth checking the stream again before deciding to travel.
The Bavarian Alps have a cool, changeable climate. Winter brings reliable snow from December to March, and summer from June to September is best for hiking, with warm days and cool evenings. Bayrischzell is reachable by road and by regional train to the nearby stations. Other cameras in the area include the Wendelstein arrival station views and the Oberaudorf Hocheck, which help you compare conditions across the range.
