Siliguri - Vue sur la ville
๐ฎ๐ณ West Bengal ยท India โ Altitude 120 m
This live stream looks out over Siliguri, the busy transport hub at the foot of the Himalayas in northern West Bengal. It is a useful window onto everyday city life and the weather at the gateway to Darjeeling and Sikkim. Watch it to see how the city looks right now before you travel.
Siliguri sits on the plains of northern West Bengal where the flat Terai lowlands meet the first ridges of the Himalayas, at an altitude of about 120 metres. It is best known as a crossroads: rail and road routes link eastern India with Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and the northeast. The city is busy, commercial and green, with markets, tea-trade history and a steady flow of traffic. Its position makes it one of the most important gateways in the region.
The view shows a city scene from above, so activity is usually the most interesting part, with traffic, rooftops and the light changing through the day. Morning and late afternoon tend to give softer light and clearer air. During the monsoon months the sky often clouds over and rain can blur the view, while in the cooler season the air is generally clearer. Expect the picture to change a lot depending on weather and haze.
Siliguri has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers, a heavy monsoon from June to September, and milder, drier winters, which are generally the most comfortable time to visit. Many travellers use the city as a base for trips to Darjeeling and the Himalayan foothills. Nearby cameras on VizCams include Khare, Dingboche, the Hotel Everest View in Nepal and Lobuche, all in mountain areas about 190 to 210 km away.
