This live stream looks out over Kawaguchi, a lakeside town in Yamanashi Prefecture at the foot of Mount Fuji. Watch it to see the lake and surrounding landscape as they are right now, or to judge whether conditions are clear enough for a view of the mountain. The page also shows local time and the weather forecast for the town.
Kawaguchi sits on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi, one of the Fuji Five Lakes formed by ancient lava flows from the volcano. The town is a common base for visitors to Mount Fuji, and it is known for its lake views, hot springs and seasonal flowers. Its elevation of roughly 830 metres gives it cooler air than the coastal cities of Japan, and the surrounding hills are forested and quiet outside the busiest months.
The camera is pointed at the Kawaguchi lakeside, so the lake surface, shoreline and nearby buildings are the likely focus. Depending on the view, the mountain may be visible on clear mornings, when the peak is often sharpest. Early morning and late afternoon tend to bring softer light and calmer water. Cloud and fog are common here, so a view of the peak is not guaranteed at any hour.
Summers are warm and humid, while winters are cold, with snow possible in the surrounding highlands. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons. Kawaguchi is reached from Tokyo by highway bus or train, and the lake area is easy to explore on foot or by bicycle. Nearby cameras cover Fujikawaguchiko, Kitakawaguchiko and the wider Yamanashi region for comparison views.
