This live stream is aimed at the Mt Fuji region of Yamanashi Prefecture, where the mountain is one of the most photographed views in Japan. Watching it lets you check how clear the sky is before you plan a trip or a photo outing. The page also shows local weather and time so you can judge conditions at a glance.
Yamanaka is a small town at about 1,000 metres above sea level on the northern side of Mt Fuji, in Yamanashi Prefecture. Its position on the lake side of the mountain makes it a common base for people who want an uninterrupted view of Fuji. The surrounding landscape is a mix of forest, farmland and volcanic terrain shaped by Fuji's past eruptions, and the air is usually cooler than in Tokyo.
The stream follows the mountain from its base, so the main thing to look for is whether the summit is visible through the clouds. Fuji is often hidden in the afternoon as moisture rises, so early morning tends to offer the clearest views, especially from autumn to spring. Mornings after a cold, dry night are the most likely to reveal the full cone, and the light changes noticeably through the day.
The region has a temperate climate with cold winters and warm, humid summers, and the best visibility is generally in the cooler months. Lake Kawaguchi and the Fuji Five Lakes are within easy reach by road or bus, and nearby cameras on this site cover Yamanakako, Fujikawaguchiko and Oyama. Check the live weather on this page before setting out, as conditions on the mountain can change quickly.
