This live camera looks out over the Nizu Resort area in Cancun on Mexico's Caribbean coast. It is useful for checking how the sea and sky look before you plan a day on the water or a trip into town. The stream is provided by its owner and embedded here with a link back to the source.
Cancun sits on a narrow strip of land between the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte lagoon, in the state of Quintana Roo. It grew from a planned resort district in the 1970s into one of Mexico's best-known beach destinations. The landscape is flat, sandy and fringed with turquoise water, and the area is close to the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza. The city is also a common starting point for diving and snorkelling trips to the reef.
Because the camera is titled after the resort, you may see the resort grounds, the surrounding coastline or the sea, depending on the view. Hotel zones in Cancun are usually busiest in the late morning and afternoon, and the sea is often calmest early in the day. Watch for changes in cloud cover, which can build quickly in the afternoon during the warmer months, and for the colour of the water, which shifts with the sun.
Cancun has a warm tropical climate, with average temperatures above 25 Β°C most of the year. The rainy season runs roughly from June to October, and hurricanes are possible in late summer and autumn. Many visitors prefer the drier months from December to April. Cancun International Airport is the main gateway, and taxis and rideshares connect the hotel zone to the city centre. Other cameras in the region, including Cancun city views and resort streams on Isla Mujeres and in Bonfil, are listed on this page.
