This live camera looks out over the Haringvliet from Middelharnis on Goeree-Overflakkee, South Holland. It is a 4K pan-tilt-zoom feed, so you can follow the water, the sky and passing boats as the view changes. Check it before planning a walk or a ride along the dyke.
Middelharnis is a small town on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, in the southwest of the Netherlands. The island is shaped by polders, dykes and open water, and the Haringvliet estuary lies close by, where fresh river water meets the North Sea. The landscape is flat and wide, with big skies that change quickly. Much of daily life here revolves around fishing, sailing and the marshes and farmland that surround the villages.
The pan-tilt-zoom mount allows the operator to move across the view, so the frame is not always the same. Typical things to follow on a Haringvliet view are water traffic, wind on the surface and changing light over the estuary. Early morning and late afternoon usually give the softest light and the clearest contrast, while stormy weather brings dramatic clouds. Conditions depend on the season and the weather on the day.
The Dutch coast has a mild maritime climate, with cool, damp winters and fairly mild summers. Spring and early autumn are often pleasant for cycling the dykes. Nearby, you can also compare views at the Rockanje cameras about 14 km away, the Oostvoorne camera about 18 km away, or the Schiedam camera about 20 km away, all listed on this page.
