This live stream shows Sonora, a small town in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. It is a useful window for checking how the town looks right now, whether the sky is clear or the weather is turning. The page also gives local time and the forecast so you can plan a trip without switching tabs.
Sonora sits about 550 metres above sea level in Tuolumne County, the historic gateway to the Gold Country. Its streets reflect the Gold Rush era, when miners and merchants arrived in search of fortune. Today the town serves as a base for visitors heading to the Sierra Nevada, the Stanislaus River and the forests further east, and its surrounding hills give it a quiet, rural character.
Depending on the view, the camera may show town traffic, rooftops, or the surrounding hillsides. Hours around sunrise and sunset are often the most pleasant to watch, when light softens the landscape. Seasonal changes are noticeable too: green grass in spring, dry golden slopes in summer, and clear crisp skies in autumn. Weather shifts are worth watching in winter, when snow can reach the higher elevations nearby.
Sonora has hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. The town is a short drive from Dodge Ridge and Bear Valley for winter sports, and Yosemite is roughly an hour and a half away by road, depending on conditions. Other cameras on VizCams in the region, including Midpines and Yosemite, are listed below for comparison.
