This live camera looks out over Cajon Pass, a low gap in the San Gabriel Mountains north of the Los Angeles basin. It is a useful window onto mountain conditions just a short drive from the city. The stream is provided by its owner and embedded here with a link to the original source.
Cajon Pass sits at about 1,160 metres and has long served as a route between the Mojave Desert and Southern California's coastal basins. Interstate 15 and the railway climb through it, so the pass has been a key transport link for well over a century. The surrounding terrain is steep, dry chaparral and pine-dotted slopes, with the desert visible on the northern side on clear days.
Depending on the view, you may see traffic moving along the highway, passing trains, and changing light on the slopes. Early mornings and late afternoons usually bring the most dramatic shadows and clearest air. Weather at higher elevation can change quickly, so fog, wind and snow are worth watching in winter and spring.
The pass has hot, dry summers and cool winters, with snow possible at the higher points. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times for a visit. Nearby, Wrightwood, Lake Arrowhead and the Mountain High resort cameras show other mountain conditions in the same range, which makes it easy to compare what is happening across the area.
