This live camera looks out over Red Lodge, a small mountain town in south-central Montana. It is a useful window onto the weather and mood of the Beartooth foothills before you plan a drive or a day outdoors. The page also shows local time and a three-day forecast so you can judge conditions at a glance.
Red Lodge sits in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains, on the edge of the Absaroka-Beartooth country that leads toward Yellowstone. It grew from a coal mining settlement into a base for skiing, hiking and fishing. The town keeps a historic Main Street and an easygoing, outdoors-minded character, and its elevation gives it cool summers and snowy winters.
Depending on the view, you may see the mountain slopes, the street and the sky over the town. Mornings often bring clear light on the peaks, while afternoon clouds can build quickly in summer and form mountain storms. In winter the view is most interesting after fresh snowfall, when the town and surrounding ridges are white and the roads are busy with visitors.
Summers are warm during the day and cool at night, and the best months for hiking and scenic drives are usually July through September. Winters are cold and snowy, suited to skiing nearby. Cooke City, Pebble Creek and other mountain spots are within reach by road, and several nearby cameras on this site show conditions along those routes.
