Cooke City - Exxon West
🇺🇸 Montana · United States — Altitude 2317 m
This live camera looks over Cooke City, a small mountain town at the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The view is from the Exxon West site, so you can check the town's conditions before you set out. The page also shows the local time and the weather outlook.
Cooke City sits at roughly 2,300 metres in the Beartooth Mountains of south-central Montana, close to the Wyoming border. It grew around historic mining and today lives mostly from summer tourism, hiking, fishing and winter snow sports. Its setting, with steep peaks rising above a narrow valley, shapes the light and the weather you will see on the camera.
The camera is most useful for judging road and street conditions, traffic on the approach roads and how much snow or cloud is sitting on the surrounding slopes. Mornings often bring clear air before afternoon clouds build over the peaks, and in winter the view can change quickly with new snowfall. Depending on the angle, you may see parked vehicles, buildings and the mountains beyond the town.
Summers are short and cool, with daytime temperatures usually comfortable for hiking, while winters are long, cold and snowy. Many visitors plan their trip for June through September, when the high mountain roads are open. Nearby cameras on this site cover Cooke City Sinclair, Pebble Creek and Red Lodge, which help you compare conditions along the route.
