This live camera looks out over Pebble Creek in the mountains of northwestern Wyoming, at about 2,090 metres above sea level. It is useful for anyone planning a trip to the Beartooth and Yellowstone country or simply curious about current mountain conditions.
Pebble Creek lies in the rugged northern part of the Rocky Mountains, close to the Montana border and the northeast entrance area of Yellowstone National Park. The region is known for steep forested slopes, alpine meadows, clear streams and wide views of peaks that stay snow-covered well into spring. The mountain setting shapes the weather more than any town nearby, so the valley can feel very different from one day to the next.
The camera follows the creek and the surrounding terrain, so the most rewarding moments are usually early morning, when mist may lie over the water, and late afternoon, when low light brings out the shape of the slopes. Snow, cloud and fresh green growth change the view noticeably through the seasons. Depending on the angle, you may also notice wildlife movement along the valley, though sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Summers are short and mild, with cool nights even in July, while winters are long, cold and snowy. Roads into the high country can be closed by snow outside the main summer season, so check conditions before you travel. The nearby cameras at Cooke City and Gardiner show other points along the same mountain route and can help you judge how conditions change over the distance.
