About Scottsbluff
Scottsbluff sits at about 1,185 metres above sea level, on the Oregon Trail route that pioneers followed westward in the nineteenth century. The dramatic sandstone and clay bluffs near the town were landmarks for travellers long before the railway and highways arrived. Today the town serves as a commercial centre for the surrounding farms, which grow sugar beets, corn, dry beans and alfalfa under irrigation from the river.
