This live stream looks out over Cache Valley, a broad farming basin in northern Utah ringed by mountains. It is a good way to check how the valley looks and what the sky is doing before you plan a trip to Logan or the nearby ski areas.
Cache Valley runs north of the Wasatch Range, roughly 1,300 metres above sea level. Logan, the largest town in the valley, sits at its heart and is home to Utah State University, which operates this camera. The valley is known for dairy and crop farming, and for its clear view of the surrounding peaks, which become snow-capped from late autumn into spring.
Because the valley is wide and open, the view changes mostly with the weather and the seasons. Clear mornings often show the mountain edges sharply, while winter brings snow on the fields and slopes. Summer evenings can turn the landscape golden, and afternoon clouds sometimes build over the peaks. Expect the scene to change slowly, so it is most rewarding to check at different times of day.
The valley has a continental climate with warm, dry summers and cold winters with significant snowfall. Late spring and early autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. Logan is about 1 km from the camera, and Beaver Mountain and its lodge lie roughly 34 km away for winter visitors. Salt Lake City is about 108 km south.
