This camera looks out over Dungeness Bay on the north coast of the Olympic Peninsula, near the town of Sequim. It is useful for checking how the water and sky look before you plan a walk, a drive or a day on the coast.
Sequim sits in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, which makes it one of the driest parts of western Washington. Dungeness Bay opens onto the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a wide waterway linking the Pacific with Puget Sound. The shoreline here is a mix of sand, pebbles and driftwood, with views across the water toward Vancouver Island on clear days. The area is known for its quiet rural character, farmland and wildlife.
The stream is tied to a beach setting, so the main things to watch are the tide, the wind on the water and the cloud cover over the strait. Mornings often bring calm water, while afternoons can be windier. Sunrise and sunset are good times to see changing light on the bay. Conditions depend on the season and the weather, so the view may range from flat, bright water to rougher grey waves.
The Sequim area has a mild, dry climate with cool summers and relatively little rain compared with much of the Pacific Northwest, so late spring and summer are popular for visits. A car is the easiest way to get around. Other VizCams streams nearby include a Sequim car and motorcycle dealership view, and cameras in Victoria, across the strait in British Columbia.
