Reykjavík - Miðbakki
🇮🇸 Capital Region · Iceland — Altitude 8 m
This live camera looks out over Miðbakki, the old harbour area on the edge of central Reykjavík. It is a good way to see how the waterfront is doing right now, from boats and weather to the light over the bay. The page also shows local time and the forecast for the city.
Reykjavík takes its name from the steam rising from hot springs, and its harbour has been the centre of the city's life for centuries. Miðbakki sits on the eastern side of the old port, close to the downtown streets, cafés and the water. The Faxaflói bay opens out to the west, and the surrounding landscape of mountains, sea and open sky gives the city its distinctive character.
The camera is most interesting when ships are arriving or leaving, since the harbour is a working port as well as a place for walks. Watch the light in the early morning and late evening, when low sun can change the colour of the water and the mountains across the bay. Weather moves quickly in this part of Iceland, so the view can change from calm to windswept within minutes, and the stream shows those shifts as they happen.
Reykjavík has a subarctic maritime climate, with cool summers and mild but wet winters, and conditions can change within a single day. Summer offers the longest daylight, while winter brings shorter days and a better chance of seeing the northern lights from the city's outskirts. The old harbour is an easy walk from the centre, and the nearby Austurvöllur square and Perlan viewpoints are also covered by cameras on this site.

The current conditions and a three-day forecast are shown in the live weather block on this page. Icelandic weather changes quickly, so check it before you plan a walk along the waterfront.
The local time for Reykjavík is displayed on this page and updates automatically. Iceland uses the same time all year round and does not observe daylight saving time.
The camera overlooks Miðbakki, the old harbour area on the eastern side of central Reykjavík, at the edge of the city centre near the water. A map on the page shows its precise position.
Early mornings and late evenings often give the best light over the bay, and arriving ships make the harbour more active. Summer days are long, while winter views can be darker but sometimes reveal the northern lights.
